Lumia 900, Nokia’s latest Windows phone is said to be the best Windows phone yet. And Nokia has spent lots of money for its marketing campaign. The Lumia was finally released last week, but despite all the marketing, it only took one day to get overwhelming negative feedback.
It appeared that its Windows Phone was plagued by an annoying software bug that caused a loss of 2G, 3G, or 4G LTE data services when the Lumia 900 was switched to airplane mode, restarted or powered down. And also this buy made the device unable to connect to data networks.
No one knew what was going on but finally, the answer came on Monday when Nokia came forward with a short statement in which it apologizes for all the problems caused and promised to deliver a software update that would correct this issue on or around April 16. The short is as follows:
“A little while after the Lumia 900 went on sale, we discovered a software issue that can sometimes lead to lost data connectivity. This issue is purely in the phone’s software, and isn’t related to the phone hardware or the network itself. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and as a gesture of goodwill, we are offering a $100 AT&T bill credit to everyone who has already purchased a Nokia Lumia 900 or who will purchase one before April 21st.”
If you’re among those who are holding on waiting for the software update, we have good news for you. Nokia has announced that the software update for the bug which cost the device to lose some face. Nokia claims the bug was software related and not hardware. The update is available from April 13, a full 3 days early than expected.
Here’s Nokia’s full statement:
“Earlier this week, Nokia communicated about a memory management issue with the recently launched Nokia Lumia 900 at AT&T that, in some cases, was leading to a loss of data connectivity.
When this news was issued on Tuesday, Nokia had identified that a software update would be available for consumer download on or around April 16th. Today, we’d like to share with you that the update is now available. Consumers now have the opportunity to update their AT&T version Nokia Lumia 900 software through Zune and Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac earlier than anticipated.
Consumers are still able to swap out their Lumia 900 for an updated Lumia 900 in an AT&T store if they’d prefer. And, of course, the $100 credit offer will remain in effect through Midnight PST on April 21st.”
