His talent was first recognized in 1937 when he had to rush back to America as according to Germans his work included non-German symbols. At that time he was serving as the head of Architect department at Illinois Institute of Technology.

In Google doodle, the building of College of Architecture at Crown Hall at the Illinois Institute of Technology building is shown. Basic composition of the building consists of glass, steel pans as shown on doodle. This construction of building started in 1950 and ended in 1956. Though it was constructed a long time ago upon the idea conceived by Meis, yet it holds the glory for the 20th Century Modernist movement of architecture designs.

All the work Ludwig Mies van der Rohe ever did, is a master piece and his absence is felt even more since he is no longer with us. May his soul rest in heavens!
