Google has announced new improvements and 3D features for Google Maps in a press Conference ‘Next Dimension’ on Wednesday. The Mountain View-based company briefed on the new concept of 3D mapping services and its integration for both the Android & iOS in the near future.
According to The Mountain View-based Company, these maps would be developed with the help of special planes. The airplanes when equipped with street view 3D cameras will capture the images to develop 3D maps. As it’s a giant project and can’t be accomplished all at once for the entire globe so the project is segregated in stages and the first phase spans on development of 3D maps for metropolitan cities only.
Here is a little insight of the new features and 3D mapping service offered by Google;
Features
• 3D Buildings
All the buildings, terrains and ground features are modeled 3D. 3D skycaps, terrains with a 45 degree aerial imagery.
• Tilt
With 3D maps you can zoom 100+ cities all over the globe and can tilt you angle of view from skyline to real life.
• Rotate
You can rotate your angle of view in any direction to see building from any angles and details you like to see them.
• Compass mode
Once you center you location on Google map and tap this option you will see the direction change with your actual change in direction.
• Smooth zooming
Zooming is refined and detailed and you can see the maps with the level of zooming you like to see them.
• Offline reliability
Maps are preloaded and you can still see them if you get offline temporarily.
• Offline rerouting
If you lost your connection at any stage of routing and later when you get connected it will automatically reroute you to the current location.
The enhanced Google maps will be available for both Android and iOS. Offline mode of Google map would be available for the first time and that too with these 3D maps.
What makes this news even more interesting is, Google announced 3D mapping service just before days when Apple is rumored to announce its own 3D mapping service on 11th of this month. There is a rumor that Apple is making its first appearance for 3D maps with integration to iOS 6 and is planning to announce about them at WWDC on June 11th.
