Cables are wires that are covered by a plastic material. They connect devices such as computers to other devices or the power source. Cables can be categorized into two. There are data cables that carry information from one point to another. The second category is the power cable that connects devices to power sources to enable the devices to function. A number of things (depending on how you handle them) can damage cables. I/O cables are used for computer motherboards and musical instruments. Therefore, they need to be properly taken care so they can be of use each you need them for a particular purpose.

Here are 4 ways you can refer to ensure your cables are in good condition for a long period of time.

Store the cables in the appropriate place

All cables should be in the right place where the conditions are favorable. They should be stored in places with favorable temperature, that is, cool. The condition should be optimum. This will reduce the rate of wear and tear, as the cables are made of plastic material covering and custom wire. They can be put inside a cable carrier to even make them be safer.

Clean the cable after using them

When the cables are being used, they tend to get dust, which accumulates, on them. This dust, if not properly cleaned may lead to the cables failing to function as expected. Wipe the tips of the cables after having used them to get rid of the dust that accumulates on it. This will ensure that when the cables are being used next time, there will not be any kind of inconvenience due to poor performance.  You can use a soft piece of cloth soaked with little soap and rinsed very well to wipe the dust off.

    Keep the cable nicely tethered

All cables vary in the size of their lengths. Some are very lengthy while others are short. Keeping them tied up around a tethering tool ensures you manage the cables properly. This will make it easy for you to handle the cable when you need it. The length of the cables will not disturb you when you want to keep it after using it. The tethering will keep the cables from quickly wearing. When cables have not been tethered at all, keeping them away after using them means that you have to drag them. These causes wear due to friction with the ground on which they are dragged. Therefore, it is very important for you to keep the cables tethered.

Avoid plugging the cables in and out frequently

Plugging the cables in and out frequently will make the cables last for a shorter period than others will. It may also lead to poor performance of the cables. Therefore, caution should be observed when handling the cables. You should not pull them or even try to twist them over. Always ensure that the cables are put in their rightful places and you can label them so you do not forget which cable belongs where.

Cables are used for so many purposes depending with their type. They enable information to flow through them to places where they can be easily accessed. It is important keep them in the best conditions for a long period. This can be only done by being cautious with them.
